BC bears emerging from hibernation
#1
It is that time of year when the bears wake up. At the Grouse Mountain Refuge, Grinder and Coola emerged from their 25 dormancy.
The two bears were born in 2001 and were orphaned. They were rescued and ended up at Grouse Mountain Refuge. There were no programs then to return orphans to the wild so they have stayed at the refuge.
There have been some issues with the grizzly bears in the area and they are searching for an aggressive bear who attacked a group of people last fall.
They are doing what they can to coexist with the local bear population.

It must be exciting seeing the bears emerge each year.
I am sure I read about Grinder and Coola when thy were rescued. I am happy to hear they have done well and are leading happy lives.

I hope they sort out the issue of the aggressive grizzly. It was an unexpected attack and the bear can be moved to a remote area if necessary.
