You are right about abscesses and bite wounds. Bite wounds often are the ones that abscess. They usually need antibiotics. I have taken antibiotics as a precaution because a bite looked like it might be a problem.

More importantly, if a bite is deep enough a person needs a tetanus shot. As much as I hate shots, I do keep my tetanus shot up to date.

I don't know if animals get tetanus. I must look that up.
