I suppose ever since we invented glass it has been a danger for birds.
Toronto has tall sky scrappers that are giant reflective surfaces. The look like they are open spaces. At night, with the lights left on they are even worse. They cause so many bird deaths every year. It is a slaughter, but birds are small so no one notices.

There are groups working to change things.
You have to admire the volunteers that go out there and pick up the birds from the ground. They save lives directly.
I wish they could get the building owners to do something to make the buildings less dangerous. If nothing else we should change how we build now that we know there is a problem.
Personally I think they should spray paint the silhouette of a bird on the building for every dead bird they find. It would get the message across.
