Tilikum the Orca has died

Sadly, Tilikum, the Orca who has been so much in the news, has finally died. After a sad life of captivity he has escaped in death.

His life was a tragic one for himself and for the humans who interacted with him. He is associated with and the cause of three human deaths. He was the subject and star of Blackfish, the documentary that revealed the horrors of Orcas in captivity.

It had been hoped that he could at least be freed from Sea World to some kind of coastal sanctuary. It was not to be. He died without even knowing freedom again.
We can't do anything for Tilikum now, but he has children still suffering captive lives. We can continue to push for their release to sanctuaries where they can have some kind of normal or at least less unhappy lives.

The days of dancing whale shows are over. Tilikum may be gone, but he will not be forgotten.
