Hammy the deer freed from tangled hammock.

Last August Hammy, a fine young buck, got his antler tangled in a purple back yard hammock.

He has been carrying part of the hammock with him ever since.

With rutting season here it became important to remove the tangle. Conservation Officers had a job finding Hammy, but finally they were successful.
Since Hammy is a local star and people want to be able to identify him, they painted his antler purple.

I am sure he feels better. There was always a danger of the tangled  hammock pieces catching on something and trapping Hammy. During the rutting season Hammy could challenge another buck and they could become entangled with each other.
The hammock had to go. 

He looks so much better without that mess. The purple antler is a good look, but it will be gone when the antlers are shed.
