Why do people abandon older pets?

The people who dump their old pets also don't look after their old parents. People who are selfish in one thing are usually selfish in other things.

What goes around comes around. The people who dump an old pet are teaching their children to dump old and inconvenient things. Some day those children will live up to the lessons they have learned and they will dump their parents. I wonder if on that day when the children drive away from the nursing home and don't look back, will the parents remember the old dog they abandoned.
