VW animal testing scandal

The university must have been paid very well for the study it did. That is the only reason that makes sense for their involvement. 
I have to wonder about the ethics committee however. I can see no reason why they would okay a study on humans and monkeys that had no possible medical benefits.

Those humans and animals that were exposed showed no immediate health issues. However there could be long  term consequences that won't develop for years. Also there in no way of knowing what long term exposure to the fumes would do to the body. 

I assume the human test subjects were paid for their participation. I wonder what was done to the monkeys.

So not only was the research unethical, it was rigged.

Also the monkeys were harmed by the experiment.

This just keeps getting worse and worse. They have been rigging the cars for years so they can pass emission tests. That doesn't help the environment that is suffering from pollution.
