A herd of UK elephants is going to Kenya

There is a herd of 13 elephants at Howletts Wild Animal Park in Kent. None of these elephants has ever lived in the wild. Most were born in Kent. 
They are going to be flown to Kenya where they will be introduced to the wild. Or rather they are part of a rewilding project. Introducing native species is essential to rewilding an area. A site is being prepared for their safe release. Other species have successfully been released to the wild. This is the first time it has been attempted with elephants.

This is an amazing project. If it is successful then there will be another full herd of elephants in Kenya. Also a herd of elephants that were born in captivity will get to live out there lives as they were meant to be. It is a tremendous undertaking and I hope that soon I will be able to post pictures of the elephants arriving in Kenya. Maybe years from now we will see pictures of the herd roaming free in the land where they were meant to be.  I wish them a safe journey to their true home.
