Jail time for killing a bear and her cub

Usually people are fined for illegally killing a bear. This time the judge did not think a fine was enough, He wanted the man to do jail time as well.
He is also banned from hunting for 20 years.
On Oct 14, 2021 a bear and cub were on his property. The cub had climbed a tree. The bear was not acting agressiively.
The man went into his house and got a bow and arrow. He shot the cub and it fell from the tree. He shot the mother bear a number of times. When she ran, he went after her and killed her. He then came back and killed the cub. He hid the cub's body.

What he didn't know was that there were two cops visiting the house next door. They saw the whole thing.

If he didn't know the killing was illegal, why did he hide the cub's body?
It isn't just the killing, it is also the cruelty of it. The bear and cub both suffered  painful prolonged deaths.
I am glad the bear killer was given jail time. I just wish it was more.
