Family pet centre built at a chidrens hospital

This is a tremendous step to humanising life for children who must be in hospital for long periods. Nestle Purina has given the St. Louis Children's Hospital $450,000 to help design, construct and open a place where pets can visit with children in the hospital.

The idea is great and would be a real comfort to many children who have to spend so much time in the hospital.

This seems to be part of a trend to let people see their pets when they are sick or when they are dying. It is a recognition of how much good pets do for us and our sense of well being.

Pets are such an important part of our lives, especially those of children. Anything that makes life more "Normal" at such difficult times has to be good. The chance to see and play with a beloved pet, who would be missing the child too, must surely help.

This is a great idea. It has been known for a long time the benefits of pets and people interacting. These children will improve their lives that way and that is important when they are suffering.

They know that therapy dogs and even rabbits are good for patients. How much better to see a beloved pet.
I am sure the kids deserve all the comfort they can get. Sick kids are  real heroes. They endure so much and sometimes there is no chance of their recovery.

What a wonderful idea. Yes it would make such a difference to those children to be able to see their own pets, or at least other peoples'animals. Thanks to the people who thought this up!!

It is a lot different than the hospitals we grew up with.

They are trying to heal the children in spirit and in body. When the body can't be healed they can still heal the spirit. We know animals, especially our own are able to heal us in spirit by their presence.

Now I hope the idea catches on and spreads to other hospitals.
