That cat is definitely trying to defend the child. If you look closely, although he runs in on hearing the noise, he starts attacking when the girl pushes the boy away from the broken glass; he stops when she retreats into a corner near the stairs, away from the child. When she later picks up the child, the cat starts again.

The cat doesn't just attack her. He keeps on chasing her. It makes me wonder about the whole situation. She certainly did not know how to respond to the cat to calm it down. I just wonder if the cat had been watching her and did not trust her in the first place?

The parents obviously didn't trust her. Who has CCTV in their sitting room!
Though I'm sure she is a sweet girl ...
