Whale freed from 100 feet of line
#1
A Humpback whale was spotted by someone riding a BC Ferry. They called the Marine Mammal Incident Hotline. They sent out a Whale Protection Unit.
They worked all afternoon, but they were able to remove the line. They were also able to contact the owner of the line.

It is wonderful that there is a Marine Mammal Incident Hotline and that they can send out a Whale Protection Unit.
It is also sad that there needs to be a Marine Mammal Incident Hotline and such a thing as a Whale Protection Unit.
At least they were able to save the whale and they will be there for the next whale in trouble.
Now they just need to deal with the people who dump gear and lines in the ocean in the first place.
