Animals are not different from us.
#1
We have gone through different phases in our thinking about animals. We have tended to think of them as less than us and as not having feelings or even self awareness or intelligence. To think otherwise was called anthropomorphism and it was looked down on as non scientific.
Numerous studies have proved our attitude wrong, but we still cling to the old way of thinking.

If we accept that animals are more than we thought, then the way we treat animals is called into question.
If animals are sensitive and have intelligence, then what about factory farming. What about animal testing in labs. What about the cruelty of slaughterhouses.
We are willing to live in denial of what is so obvious because we don't want to change.

It's all about money and power people treat animals like that as it's all about maximising profit the ones that do it to their own pets are just lowlife horrible people.
