Whooping cranes, a conservation success story

At one point the Whooping Crane population was down to 21 birds. The Wilder Institute undertook a conservation effort to breed the cranes and bring them back from near extinction. There are now over 800 Whooping Cranes.

It has been a lot of work, but it has also been a great success. The birds are not out of danger, but at least now they have a fighting chance of surviving.

I would love to see one in the wild. Maybe some day it would be possible.
When we work to save a species through our conservation efforts, the results can be truly remarkable.
