A chicken slaughter house responds
#1
After all the talk of how slaughterhouses treat chickens, we finally have a response from one of them

At least they are not trying to deny the cruelty.
They don't say that they did not know what was going on. Does this mean they knew, but didn't care or didn't think we would find out.

Their response is a typical "corporate response". As you correctly point out, they do not deny that this cruelty took place - so they knew about it. It is only public scrutiny which gets them to do something.

It is an awful thing to say, but I think basically, many companies don't care -unless they get a kick somewhere they can't ignore. Then they have to make changes. It's up to us, and others like us, to kick things here and there.

This appears to be human nature. Close one's eyes to a situation until education and/or public pressure makes one wake up. I don't mean to sound cynical, but have seen this force in operation all over the place, all the time.

You are not being cynical, you are just being realistic about what we are working with. We can get corporations to change for the better if they realize that public opinion wants it.
The CEO who was fired after he kicked a dog in an elevator(on camera of course) was fired because we found out and petitioned against him. He wasn't actually fired for the dog's sake.

We can't make them care, but we can make them act like they care if we apply enough pressure. It's imperfect, but if it prevents animal suffering, we will accept it.

The fourth temptation of St Thomas Becket not withstanding, sometimes it is okay to do the right thing for the wrong reason, if it is important that the right thing be do.
