It is an awful thing to say, but I think basically, many companies don't care -unless they get a kick somewhere they can't ignore. Then they have to make changes. It's up to us, and others like us, to kick things here and there.
This appears to be human nature. Close one's eyes to a situation until education and/or public pressure makes one wake up. I don't mean to sound cynical, but have seen this force in operation all over the place, all the time.
