Bison return to Banff National Park
#1
This is wonderful news. Banff National Park, the first Canadian National Park, is in the Rocky Mountains in Alberta. The area is so over used and ecologically stressed. Years of misuse have taken their toll.
Finally they will be reintroducing Bison to the park. Who can predict how this will impact the ecology. It can only improve things in the long run. Look what the wolves did for Yellowstone.

I did a lot of hiking in that area when I was younger and lived out that way. I am thrilled to think of Bison herds roaming. It could be park of restoring the area to eco-health. I know it will be years before the impact is felt, but just seeing it started gives me much hope.

Wow! The park looks beautiful. You were very lucky to be able to hike there. What a lovely place.

I hope the re-introduction of the Bison works out well. It sounds like a good idea.

The Bison could be the key to restoring the habitats. Some areas are so over used that they had to be closed off. That isn't enough. Bison were part of the ecosystem. If they want it to be healthy, then they need the bison back.

I did some amazing hikes and back packing when I was younger and I cross country skied in the winter. It is a truly beautiful place. I even went canoeing on the Bow River that runs through the park. I will have to go back to see the Bison when they are established.
