Mass grave of greyhounds found
#1
Following on from the disclosures about greyhounds being "trained" to run faster with live bait, I found this sad piece of news just now on BBC News:
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-32143027

Is this the tip of the iceberg, I wonder?

How absolutely terrible. Poor dogs. I hope they will find something better in the next world. It's very sad.

I don't like the word they use for the killing of a beautiful animal which could go to a Greyhound rescue..."Wastage".

Surely, to arrange for a Rescue to collect them would only cost one phone call?? And there may be Greyhound rescues in Australia?

I just found this wonderful site: http://greyhoundrescue.com.au/ They also have a video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iWyxY4AHFY

Blessings to them for caring!

Yes indeed. Blessings to them for what they do.

And you found that in -what? Minutes?
It is so hard to imagine that a human being can be so heartless as not to even bother, when they have racing greyhounds which are of no more use to the sport. And who would prefer to shoot them instead. I could understand it if the dog was terminally ill, or died of natural causes, but not otherwise.
But dumping their bodies like so much garbage. My heart goes out to these Souls, these beautiful dogs. I hope they will find love peace and happiness on the other side and think twice about reincarnation!!

I read your first post this morning, but I had to leave for work and couldn't comment until now.
I am not surprized that they found a dump site for greyhound bodies. I bet there are others. The fact that they refer to the dogs as wastage tells how they feel about them. They think of them as garbage so they put them in the dump.

The whole greyhound industry is flawed. Their attitude towards the dogs is unacceptable. The dogs are a way to make money and when they don't make money, they get rid of them.

They are such loving trusting dogs. They must have been so happy when they were being driven to the kill site. They would have believed that it was a wonderful outing right up to the end.Smiley19

Thank you for finding out about the rescues. At least we know that some dogs find loving homes.
I ended up watching a whole lot of greyhound videos. They are such fun loving dogs. As pets they are fantastic. There is no reason to kill even one greyhound. Many people are willing to adopt them.

These are the retired dogs. What about the puppies that are born and "culled" because they do not show promise as racers. I have not heard about greyhound puppies being available for adoption. I wonder where they dump their bodies.

That's a very good article, LPC. Thank you for posting the link. I have met and known quite a few Greyhounds and know them to be excellent dogs, with lovely characters.

I wish I had room for a greyhound. There is a rescue in my area. I see retired racers all over. Sometimes a group of them meet up at the park.
I love the coats they wear. Greyhounds wear coats in a way that looks classy. They clearly like their coats and need them in our winters.

There should be no reason why every retired dog can't find a loving home. So many people want dogs. Certainly greyhounds are sweet gentle dogs and they are beautiful to look at. There would also be the joy of knowing you saved a dog's life. How wonderful is that.

There is really no choice here, a wonderful loving home vs. a mass grave. How could a greyhound breeder make the choice to kill a dog?
