Colorado Lake over-run with Goldfish!
#1
Yes, I did say Goldfish. It seems that someone turned a few fish loose in the lake and now there are thousands. They are destroying the lake and the native species so something will have to be done.

Sadly any solution involves the death of the Goldfish. They are the innocent offspring of abandoned pets and they didn't ask for this. Goldfish have long lives and can get very big. They should have long happy lives, but instead they are part of an Eco disaster and they do need to be removed from the lake.

I wish someone would come up with a solution that would save the fish. But they are "just" fish and nobody cares.Undecided

Well, there was one possible solution, according to the article - but it was rejected by the staff:
"The goldfish won't get a second life as pets; though ABC Denver reports that people have been phoning parks officials asking if they can head to the lake to retrieve some to take home, officials have said no."

That would have been a simple solution: come and take a goldfish home (with a net, not a fishing line, of course, LOL!). Better that than killing them all.

I assume that the problem arose because people got fed up looking after their goldfish so dumped them in the lake. Once again, it shows how some people (sadly) take on pets without researching the responsibilities first. As Knight always says, a pet is for life.

Now why ever not?? "Officials have said no"....How ridiculous. What harm could people do -taking some of them out of the lake? That wouldn't save the majority, but it would be a nicer ending for some at least.

People just love their rules and regulations whether they make sense or not.

I don't know why they can't rescue some of the fish. People are willing. They could do a massive rescue adopt-a-thon before they clear out the lake. If they have to drain the lake they could save all the fish. It would make them look like good guys.

The fault is people who abandoned their pets, but why do the officials have to be bad guys.

Pets are for life, but people have no idea how long goldfish get or how long they live.

When you look at the picture you can see how many fish there are. Some of them are quite big.

Why can't anyone see adoption as an option. Why do we always look to killing as the answer.
