Things I do with my reptiles on weekends
#1
There are a lot of interesting urban projects in Toronto. I attended a Laneway Crawl. The idea is to do interesting things in the laneways and make them active public spaces.

So the reptile centre did a small reptile show. I was there.

I am the Catherine in the picture. I am holding Mr. Ball Python, one of the centres snakes and a spunky baby bearded dragon. The big snake that Paul is holding is Merlin, the Dumerils Boa. He is a sweetheart and he does birthday parties.

This is the event:

The reptiles had fun. They like public events like that. The youngest person to touch Mr. Ball Python was under six months.
They both had fun.

I'm glad that everyone had a good time. Nice pictures!

BTW, for those who don't know what a "laneway" is (I didn't), the answer is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laneway_house

What an interesting and lively weekend that must have been! Yes I see you on the photograph!

I had never heard of a laneway before. So thanks for that link, LPC.
I imagine the equivalent in England would be a 'mews', or mews house in cities like London (?) Once upon a time, those small but charming houses were very affordable....but not any more!

Thank-you for the link. I didn't realize why they are called laneways. We also have back alleys, but they are different. The stores on Bloor St. face the main street and sidewalk. The apartments above them are entered by the back by way of the Laneway. They have decks and terraces and flowers. People live back there.

I went out the back door of the reptile centre and drew big giant reptiles in chalk on the pavement. That was my contribution to the art part of the event.
We stayed out back with some reptiles and we let kids touch them and hold them.

Other sites were doing crafts and food. They were dancing at the place next to us. There was a big poster on the wall at one end of the laneway where people could write down suggestions about what we need to do to make the city more liveable.
Lots of people were walking their dogs along the laneway. People were talking to each other and just enjoying the neighbourhood.
Events like this help pull a neighbourhood together.

I live in a big city, but it is actually a lot of unique neighbourhoods all living side by side. My area is very aware of ecology and living green. We plant trees and butterfly friendly flowers. People plant flowers in the back alleys in some places. I really like it here.Heart

I really enjoy festivals like that. My neighbourhood is good. People are friendly. There are good food stores and other shops. We have good transit. We are on the edge of downtown and there are many theatres and events all year round.

It is friendly and fun. What more can you ask of your neighbourhood.

There are a ton of good bakeries too.
