In the article you cite, the dogs do not look exactly alike: the white on the nose goes further on the dog on the right. I'm sure that their characters are not identical, either.

Some people may say, "It's their money, to spend as they wish". True, but that doesn't mean that their decision is the right one. As you say, doing good to lots of dogs would be a much better use of their money.
