Max the Therapy Dog
#1
Max is a specially trained therapy dog. His presence makes a big difference to people in crisis. His presence helped a girl testify in a sex assault case. Dogs make us feel safer. If they are calm we respond by being calmer.

Max is a handsome dog too. He loves his work.

I wish we had way more therapy dogs around. It would calm city life down and we could use more calm.

Golden Retrievers like Labs make very good therapy dogs. They have such a calm temperament..

There will be more therapy dogs when it's realized how helpful they are.

I've seen quite a few apparently autistic children respond well to them but unfortunately there's a waiting list as it takes awhile to train them and it's expensive. My friend in another state her daughter works with the guide dogs for the blind she's a kennel maid for them helps to train them after they come back from being socialised with a family she loves her job. She used to work with the RSPCA but it got too much for her.

Working with service dogs would be a dream job.  They are loving and dedicated animals and preparing them for their work would be such a meaningful job.

I can see why she would need a break from the RSPCA. That is demanding work with less rewards.

We need more therapy service dogs, but as you say, it takes time and money to train them.

Dogs seem to do wonders for some autistic kids. They can reach them when nothing else seems to help.

I read a very interesting book a couple of weeks ago. The book is about an autistic child and his relationship with his dog. It is a true story, and very moving. The title is "Cowboy and Wills" by Monica Holloway. I found it in a charity shop for Secret World wildlife rescue, but it should still be in prnt and available....? Perhaps on Amazon? It was published 2009

I can check out our library system. It might be somewhere in the city and I can order it.

Dogs are the best thing that ever happened to us. They seem to help in so many human situations. They actually want to help us. We should be very grateful to the dogs of the world.

Golden retrievers do seem to have the empathy to be therapy dogs. They are also so appealing that they put everyone at ease just by being there. Whenever I see a Golden I just want to hug it and I feel good just thinking about it.
