April 22---Earth Day 2016.

Happy Earth Day!

Earth Day was started in 1970 and has been celebrated every year since then. I will let you read the history if you are interested.

The idea is to be aware of the environment and to be supportive of environmental concerns.

I understand this years theme is tree planting. I must see if I can find a square inch  where I can plant another tree. Will it do if I tend the trees I have already planted?

There are lots of ideas and thoughts about the day.

However you celebrate Earth Day I hope it brings you an awareness of how much we owe this beautiful planet  and how much the planet needs us right now.

We can't hug the whole planet, but maybe hugging a tree will be good enough.

I spent the day in Nature, being in an apartment all my plants are in pots, here in B.C. there were huge crowds celebrating by smoking marijuana in public places, to each his own.

The actually Earth Day is April  22. I posted early because I am in a later time zone. The rest of the world is always finished with something by the time I get to it. Just once I wanted to be on time.

I can't do too much tomorrow, but I will be working in a building overlooking the river valley and looking south towards the lake. I should be able to see how much the leaves are starting to open. Overnight things are turning green.  My trees are starting to grow and my lilac has small leaves so flowers should come soon. Even my hostas are showing signs of growth. It is a perfect time of the year to celebrate Earth Day. We can see how much the Earth is alive. Of course that is in Canada. Other parts of the world are having different seasons.

I could see leaves opening all day long. It is just turning into spring and it is so pretty. Even a weed is a welcome sight after winter.

I also put out window boxes in hope of planting them soon.

I didn't plant any new trees, but the trees I have planted look good.

I saw new pansies outside the apt. bldg. that are yellow. I noticed a lawn with violets blooming in it. I saw so many pretty flowers today, tulips, too. Suzy had a nice walk.

Toronto needs many more trees. We lost 25% of our trees in the ice storm 2 years ago. Smiley19
I lost all my butterfly bushes and I still do not have new ones established.
It takes time to replant and regrow.

I had a butterfly garden years ago. I did it by using a package of seeds called "Butterfly Garden". I wonder if that is sold where you live. The land lord here planted a few new trees last year. There are lots of trees around here. Sorry your trees were destroyed by ice.
