I was thinking about Mrs. Yang just yesterday and wondering what is happening.
I am glad to hear that she is really rescuing dogs and doing her best for them.
I am guessing the Mrs. Yang is good at rescuing dogs, but not so good at paperwork and sorting out finances. I am relieved to find out that she is still doing good and rescuing dogs.

It is difficult to know what to believe, with such conflicting reports appearing. Thank you, Tobi, for the reports giving the other side of the story.

Well....I have not seen one dog on any photograph who looked to be starving.
Yes last year on the No To Dog Meat report, I did see 2 pictures of dead ones, and one with a small dog leashed to a rope, so it could walk about by sliding along the rope, and one with a dead mother with young pups. We were not shown what happened to the pups after the video was filmed. It is highly possible they were taken away and looked after as well as could be done.
I also saw a terrier/terrier mix with a bad skin infection. Those were from the photos taken in August 2015. It is impossible to know how much these particular incidents were focused upon in order to give a deeply negative overview of what was going on in her shelters, or whether those things were regular occurrences.
My own instinct was what it always was; that there were a huge number of dogs housed in crude circumstances (by Western standards). That the standards we have (in the West) for animal care and shelter management, has little to do with the day to day realities in Tianjin.
The way I see it all those dogs looked better -even in the negative photos and videos, and certainly in this new blog by Victoria -than they would have looked boiled alive and served up with lychees.

All these dogs are rescues and I doubt they were in good shape when they arrived at Mrs. Yang's shelter. When you have that many animals, even with perfect care there will still be some deaths.
Mrs. Yang's first shelter is pretty rough. I doubt she expected to rescue so many animals. It looks like she is building something better. Even if it doesn't meet western standards, you are right about the dogs being better with her than where they would have ended up.
Mrs. Yang needs someone to keep track of "paperwork" for her. Her strength is in caring for the dogs.

Yes of course some are going to die. They were not exactly treated well before they were rescued. Some will not make it. I think that is to be expected, with such a large number of dogs.
And even at ts best, it is a different world out there to the lifestyle many of our dogs are used to. The best to hope for is kindness, food, water and a safe place.

I think Mrs. Yang has done and is doing a marvelous job. The important thing is that she was there when those dogs needed her most. Her rescues were literally life and death situations.
I think we can cut her some slack when it comes to the refinements in care that she is not able to give. The dogs do look happy and they are alive and safe.

I am glad Mrs. Yang has loyal friends. As far as I can see she has worked tirelessly to help the dogs. Her new shelter looks very good.
It is sad that there are factions even in the people who are against eating dogs. If only they could get along and not waste resources. Mrs. Yang seems to have gone ahead and built a shelter and carried on in spite of the criticism. I am glad to hear that she is doing well.

My personal stance is as it always was. That it's the dogs (and some cats also involved) who come first. I do not understand much else. So long as things are working to help the animals, that is what counts.
I cannot understand any 'politics' or any heavily-guarded money-making schemes involved in this issue. And I cannot understand why so many humans put argument and controversy on a higher agenda than animals' welfare.
