Police shoot coyote.....missing cubs found!
#1
There have been sightings of a sick coyote in Toronto. His mate was killed by a car. He was raising three babies on his own. He seems to have mange which could be treated. Toronto Wildlife has been trying to help him.

Today there was a sighting and police were called. They didn't call Toronto Wildlife, the people who are trained to deal with this. They just shot him. He might just be seriously wounded, but he will now be in no shape to look after a litter of babies.

You have to feel for this coyote. He is not well. He is recently widowed and has three children he is struggling to look after. He needs help and when the police come, the help he gets is being shot and wounded.

That sums it up very well. Trigger happy cops again.

Oh this is very sad indeed. Why did they have to do that??

I just read in the newspaper the other day where a carer for an autistic man was shot by the police! The man lay right down in submission flat on his back on the ground, and raised his hands in the air, calling out clearly to the police that he was the nurse/carer for the autistic man, who was sitting on the ground playing with a toy truck. (Someone had called the police saying there was a disturbed man walking about outside with a 'gun'.)
Guess what? The police shot the guy in the leg anyway. When he asked, "Why did you do that?" The police officer said "I don't know." Can you believe that?

If that can happen to people, it can happen to coyotes. What is this world coming to?

That was my thought. They could have saved the coyote. They never even tried.

I read about the incident with the autistic boy. The one who got shot was the care giver. They should have been trying to "rescue" the man. They can't seem to see past the solution of shooting everything.
The police certainly don't have a relationship with the communities they "serve". Actually they have lost sight of their job as a public service profession.

Maybe they should train them to know why to shoot and why not.  I would feel safer and so would our wildlife.

I decided to add the follow-up article to the original thread. The wounded coyote is still out there, but they have found his cubs.

At least now there is a chance of a happy ending. The cubs can grow strong and live even though there mother was hit by a car and their father was shot by the police.

We are not yet sure of the fate of the male coyote.
