Calgary Zoo honoured for Whooping Crane recovery program
#1
The Calgary Zoo and several other facilities have been honoured for their work with the Whooping Cranes.
In 1944 there were just 21 Whooping Cranes in the wild. Now through the efforts of the zoo in a special breeding program, there are  450 Whooping Cranes in the wild. That is an incredible recovery.

It doesn't mean we can sit back and say the job is over and the cranes are safe. It does mean that the species has a chance of surviving. Over the years a lot of work has gone into conservation. It is heartening to know that the efforts are paying off.
