Wildlife underpasses
#1
I know I have made posts about wildlife underpasses and some over passes. They are the passageways built to allow wildlife to safely cross a major highway. Different studies have shown that they are being used.  A bear in Banff has crossed to the other side and fathered a number of cubs.
They set up a camera in North Idaho to see how busy the underpasses are.
Take a look.

It is not just that they are busy, there seems to be a real variety of species that use the under passes.
This is good for so many reasons. Less animals are being killed on the roads. Also natural migrations can take place and this encourages genetic diversity in the animal populations. Highways can cut animals off from each other. Overpasses allow free movement and opens up populations to each other which allows there to be healthy genetic diversity. I would say they are a success and worth whatever it cost to built them.
