Puppy rescued after being thrown into a fire
#1
This is a terrible cruelty story, but it is also an incredible rescue.
Some kids threw Polo, a puppy into a fire pit. All his fur was burned off before he could be pulled from the fire, but he had a long thick coat and it saved his life. He was in a remote area and a Winnipeg rescue group has flown him to Winnipeg where he is being treated.

Clearly he is going to make it and in spite of what was done to him, Polo is still a loving trusting puppy.

Once again a dog proves to be better that the people who hurt him.
I am glad there is a group like Save A Dog Network Canada. They are able to do so much good.
They recognize that part of the problem is an over population of dogs in remote northern Canadian regions because of a lack of veterinary care. There is no excuse for what was done to Polo, but helping to alleviate the dog crisis will help prevent incidents like this.  Dogs are not native to North America and certainly don't fit into some of the remote areas. With no way to neuter the dogs and no way to feed them properly some places become over run with strays. As long as people are controlling their dogs and not letting them have puppies the situation can be controlled. Sadly this has not happened. Rescue groups are having to arrange to bring animals out for treatment and fly vets in to do basic care like vaccinating and neutering.  There is still a lot of work to be done and some areas have had little or not veterinary care. It will take time to sort out a problem that has gone on too long.
