7 horses saved from frozen pond
#1
There was a dramatic rescue in Alberta this weekend. Ten horses wandered onto a frozen dugout and fell through the ice.
Specially trained rescue crews spent hours cutting through the ice to free them. Seven of the horses are doing well. Two died of exhaustion and one from injuries.  It was incredibly dangerous work and the dedication and bravery of the rescue workers is commendable. They are real heroes.

There is some good video of the rescue and some of the horses afterwards.

It is sad for the three horses that died, but without help they all would have died. At least they all knew that someone was trying to help them. Those seven horses are very lucky they were found in time and that there were so many dedicated trained professionals to help them.

I am glad that seven horses survived. Even those who passed would know they were being helped. Brilliant work, but the rescuers must feel sad that they couldn't save all of them.

Those kind of rescues are very hard and very dangerous. The cold water would have been too much for the horses. They did get all 10 out of the water alive. The three that died were already being cared for and knew they were safe, they just were too far gone to recover.
It is still an amazing rescue.

Those frozen ponds are so dangerous. This time of year the ice seems firm and then it gives out.  It would have been scary. I am glad they were rescued in time.
