Dead Orca was contaminated with PCBs
#1
An Orca died last year off the Scottish coast after being tangled in fishing gear.
This is a sad lose to a declining Orca population in the area.
They did examine her after dear and do tests. Her body was found to be contaminated with extremely high levels of PCBs. (polychlorinated biphenyls)
We know the oceans are polluted and we know that animals like Orcas, dolphins and other kinds of whales concentrate the pollution in their flesh over time. It is just alarming to find the amounts are higher than expected.

This means the oceans are in worse trouble than we expected.
It will have consequences for those who eat whales and dolphins. (we know who I mean, they still hunt whales)
PCBs are not the only contaminants to be found in the marine mammals.

The consequences for the marine mammals are many. Their overall health is damaged, but so is their reproductive health. That means they are losing their ability to reproduce because of contamination.
We are not immune from the same consequences. That bears thinking about.
