Shortage of Autism Service Dogs
#1
There is a serious shortage of Autism Service dogs  and other service dogs in Canada.
People need dogs for their children with Autism and they need them now. There is a 2-3 year waiting list and now they no longer put names on the list. For someone with an Autistic child it must seem like the end of hope.
The problem is really the funding. The dogs are expensive to train and the money all comes from donations. They can't raise sufficient funds to expand the training program enough to meet the needs of families with Autistic children.

There is a real need for government funding so that programs can be expanded.
There is the same need for other types of service dogs.  Since these dogs do so much for the people they serve and do reduce the health care costs for these people we need to push for stable government funding for service dog training centers.

I wonder what the situation is like in other places. I know service dogs are very expensive.
