The Czech Republic bans fur farms
#1
This is a victory! The Czech Republic has banned fur farms. That means 20,000 animals a year will not be living in horrible conditions before they are cruelty killed for their fur. This is a tremendous step forward to a kinder better way.

The Czech Republic joins a growing list of countries that ban fur farming.
Other countries are preparing to ban fur farming. No my country is not on the list. Fur farming is still legal in Canada.

The list is slowly growing. The UK banned fur farming in 2000. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fur_Farmin...)_Act_2000

Regarding Canada, have you seen this, Catherine? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fur_farming#Canada

Canada is a long way from banning fur farming. There is still a strong Canadian "tradition" of wearing fur because of our cold winters. However many of us are perfectly warm in our fur free winter clothes. We need to develop a new tradition of being a cruelty free country. I think it will come with time, but we are not there yet.

I do wish they wouldn't free the mink when they raid a fur farm. The farmed mink are not a native species and they can kill a lot of local wildlife. Also it is cruel to turn a farmed animal loose like that. I doubt their lives go well.

We still do a lot of fur trapping as well. It is going to take a lot of work to change the attitude towards fur. This country was founded on the fur trade. We need to move beyond that. We are more than a just a bunch of lumber jacks and fur traders. Maybe in this our 150th year we need to find a new Canadian identity. Cruelty free Canada sounds like a good goal for our next 50 years.
