It is good you have an experienced snake person nearby. Snakes are different as  pets. The first time your snakes stops eating for a long time it can be scary. Sometimes snakes just stop eating. Then they start eating again. It isn't always clear why it happens.
It helps to have someone to talk to when you are worrying.

Then there are shedding issues. The first time you have a snake retain the eye caps you will want her advice. I have been known to grab a snake and rush to the reptile centre. Paul has so much more experience.

I find reptile people are always willing to help each other. Once you have been through a few snake disasters and complications you will be there to help someone else.


My worst disaster happened when my king snake stuck his head in a side opening of his plastic log and got stuck. Instead of trying to pull out he was determined to push himself in further. He was actually having trouble breathing and if he had gotten much further in he might have been unable to breath. I threw him in a snake box, log and all and rushed to the reptile centre. Paul used plyers to break the log apart and free him. (I wasn't strong enough to break it myself and I did try). Elliot was fine, but he was really an angry snake. He was determined to push himself right through the log and he seemed to think that we stopped him. I am glad I had help on that one.
