Shocking abuse of sea mammals
#1
Visitors to Kokoya Island, Indonesia were shocked when they were diving and found sea mammals chained in small pens. The animals were captured by fishermen and held in small pens so they could be used as a tourist attraction. The chains had cut deeply into the skin of the animals indicating that they had been held for some time.

This is a horrible abuse of gentle creatures like the Dugong, a  sea cow. The animals were not given even the most basic care and they were wild animals that the fisherman had no right to capture.

Good for the divers that they insisted the animals be released. They were not sure the fishermen would comply, so they started a social media campaign to make people aware of the animals plight.
It worked! A short time after they went online the wildlife authorities contacted them about the animals and their location.

The animals have since been released.

This story is shocking because of how the animals were abused. It is also hopeful because of how people acted to save animals in need. This story has a happy ending because the divers followed the principle, if you see something say something.
We can all do that.

What an awful thing to do to those creatures. I am so glad they were noticed, and fought for, and released.

I agree, it is good they were released.  Everywhere that we go we need to watch and observe. It is the only hope some animals have if they are ever going to be free.  Someone who cares has to work for their freedom.
