The PAWS Act
#1
The USA is working on an act to protect animals caught in domestic abuse situations. It will provide resources for shelters to help
people from abuse with their pets.
This is very important because it recognizes that the family pet can be vulnerable in an abusive situation and that the pet needs to be protected if the human victim is going to seek shelter. No one wants to leave a pet behind to an uncertain future with an abusive spouse.

This is not a new idea, but this bill could make a big difference to the pets and people trying to flee abuse.
I like the fact that there is a provision for vets bills to be paid by the abuser. That alone could do more to stop violence than anything. Abusers don't want to have to pay bills even if the pet's injury is their fault.
