Save the Beaver, Save the Salmon

Two environmental groups are challenging the practice of killing beaver in Oregon. They are taking the position that beavers are essential to the survival of the Coho salmon. Beaver ponds slow down water flow and create a space where salmon can lay their eggs and the eggs can hatch and survive. There are probably other links to other species whose lives depend on the beaver dams. They are a key species because they do change their environment with their dams.

I hope the lawsuit succeeds. It is important to protect the beaver. This may just be in one small area, but if they win, it will influence other places. 

Right now the salmon need all the help they can get.
