Animal Shelter votes to go "No Kill"
#1
This is a cause for celebration. The board of directors of The Animal Rescue League of Berks County has voted unanimously to become a no kill shelter. This is going to cost more and require more staff, volunteers and foster homes, but there is public support for this. More money has already been pledged and more people have shown willingness to help.

The decision to do this is a good one. The public's response is amazing. I think it is a sign that people no longer accept the idea of a shelter killing healthy animals. We want them all to have a chance at life. I think if we looked into it we would find that the number of "kill" shelters has decreased. Those that are not yet "no kill" will still ship animals to other places to give them a chance at life. There is a lot of reason to hope that the days of killing thousands of healthy animals every year is coming to an end.
Every shelter that chooses to go "no  kill" sends a message that it can be done.
Well done Animal Rescue League of Berks County.
