The notorious Canidrome in Macau has finally been shut down!!!!!
In the fifty years it has been open tens of thousands of greyhounds have been killed. No dog gets out alive. A dog that wasn't fast enough was killed. It has been described as a death camp for dogs and rightly so.
Slower dogs from other places like Australia were sold and ultimately sentenced to death.

Now that it is closed the hundreds of dogs still there are going to be cared for until they can find homes.

Since the Canidrome was the worst of the worst of greyhound racing sites the situation for greyhounds has improved greatly. Dogs from Australia can no longer be shipped off to the Canidrome. It won't be worth it for those breeders to continue.
It also sets a precedent that greyhound abuse is no longer acceptable.
Dare we hope that this is the beginning of an actual cleanup of an industry that seems to be based on animal cruelty.
