Trapped Dolphins die
#1
I was reading this and thought how sad and then I read that they just let them die if they get trapped. They do not even try to help them.

If the water was so shallow and they could get as close as they did to film them, why couldn't they carry then overland to open water. Not an easy task, but better than watching them die.[/quote]

How cold and uncaring is that. Dolphins are small enough that they could move them. It is hard if it is a big whale, but a dolphin, surely they could do something.

How sad ....
Heart It is our deeds, the accumulated acts of goodness and kindness that define us and ultimately are the true measure of our worth. Service is the coin of the spirit.Heart

The second article finishes thus: "But authorities, except in rare cases, will not intervene to rescue wild animals in distress." Why not? Not enough money or staff? Lack of political will? Some other excuse? It could be done, with the right equipment and staff - although I accept that it would be too difficult for private individuals.

Well they jolly well should have done something to help!!
All that claptrap about "not interfering with Nature". By our very existence, and the things humans do -we interfere with Nature every breath we take.

I have seen similar before in wildlife programmes. An animal in great distress, which is being filmed -perfectly -and yet no-one is lifting a finger to assist! It's peculiar that very phrase is used when observing a wild animal who has got itself into a bad fix, and human effort could definitely help it...and yet not used when observing a woman in difficult childbirth! Imagine if the powers-that-be said to HER, "Oh sorry -we can't interfere in Nature."?

If someone could film -then someone could have helped -or at least tried to help.
I am seriously NOT impressed, with this example of human failing, or any similar. There ARE no excuses. Not even lack of our so-precious 'money'.

(Though I do agree, it probably would have been too tough a job for a private individual to have taken on.)

I agree that an individual would not have been able to do much, but the article mentions Canadian fisheries officials visiting the site more than once. Their policy is to not interfere. Why not! We certainly interfere enough to do harm.

I think something should have been done or at least attempted. Could they have used an icebreaker to open a passage for them. Had they planned to "harvest" the dolphins they would have found a way to "interfere". So why couldn't they interfere to save them. They watched moms and babies die and did nothing. It just seems cold and unfeeling.Smiley19
