. The Chinese lanterns are another problem. Yes they look beautiful when flying up, but then they come down, usually in a field with livestock, and the wires in them are dangerous to animals.
Many a time I have had to untangle a balloon from a hedge or pick it up out of a field. Usually it says Happy Birthday or Happy 50th anniversary....or some such thing. But once it's flown everyone forgets about its fate.
I am not surprised this has become a major problem.
