Monarch Butterfly numbers are up.
#1
The number of Monarch Butterflies wintering in Mexico are up this year. After the disastrous winter of 2013-2014 people have worked to plant milkweed and help the monarchs at the northern end of their range. Thousands of milkweed plants are now thriving. We have done what we can to send the butterflies on their way south. It is heartening to hear that their numbers have increased in their wintering grounds.

I know the Monarchs are just one pollinator and we have so much more work to do to help our pollinators survive. It is just good to hear now and then that what we are doing is helping. So much of what we have done has contributed to pollinator decline. Now we are swinging things the other way.

I look forward to the Monarch return in the spring. I promise to plant even more things to make them happy they came back.
