Rabbit virus returns to Vancouver Island
#1
For the second year, Vancouver Island is having problems with a deadly rabbit virus. Last year hundreds of rabbits died. This year knowing what to look for they have confirmed the viruses presence much sooner. It is a deadly disease that kills quickly, but there is also a vaccine. The provincial government is recommending people raising rabbits or people with pet rabbits to vaccinate immediately.

The source of the virus is unknown and it is hard to stop the spread in an unvaccinated population. If people with rabbits on the island all went for vaccination right away they could really control this outbreak. Maybe they could even stop it. Viruses die out when there is no transmission. I hope people react quickly. It would be sad to get to the end of the year and realize that yet again, hundreds of rabbits had died
