The Puppies of Chernobyl
#1
April 26, 1986 is a day the world will not forget. The impact of a nuclear reactor explosion and fire are still being felt.
There were dogs in the area that were left behind in the emergency evacuation. Many generations later there are puppies without homes struggling to survive. Charities have been working to rescue these puppies and find them homes.

There is a lot of misinformation. The dogs are strays in the exclusion  zone. They are not radioactive. Their health problems and short life spans are from lack of care and the harsh winters. Volunteers have been working to help these dogs have better lives.
There work has paid off.
At last Chernobyl puppies have found homes in the USA.

The consequences of a disaster like this are so far reaching. It is hard to take in the impact it had on humans. For years no one even thought about pets that were left behind. Ideally all the strays could eventually fine homes and end this part of the impact of the disaster.

The effects on animals in general have been interesting. There are many animals now living in the large exclusion zone.
I am posting a link to a video we have seen before, but it is well worth watching.

It is amazing how life survives.
