Stranded Grey Whales swim to freedom
#1
Two Grey Whales became stranded off Vancouver. As the tide went out they became trapped on sand bars.
They were there for some time and rescue teams were called in to try and help. Fortunately as the tide came in, the water levels rose and the pair were able to swim to freedom.

The Grey Whales are migrating right now and there are beachings. Migration is always a vulnerable time for any species. They are passing through less familiar areas and it is easy to make mistakes.

In this case it was a mother and calf. They were caught on the sand when the tide went out. The rising water of the returning tide was enough to free them. They seemed to be is good shape after their ordeal. Hopefully the rest of their migration will be uneventful.

I am so glad it was a happy ending.
