To Serve and Protect....Barn Swallows
#1
The barn swallows in Vancouver's Stanley Park are endangered and their numbers have declined. However they have found a nest site that is quite safe for them. Stanley Park is home to the police barns. They have a number of horses and a fine barn that is just right for nesting barn swallows. Every year the birds return and every year the police welcome them.

I like the fact that they are publicly acknowledging the benefits of having the birds nesting in the barns.
People complain about being bitten by insects, but they are not willing to have barn swallows around.
They should learn from the police. A few swallows nests around would take care of any insect problems.

Until people learn how to work with nature, at least the swallows nesting in the police barns are safe.
