Woman arrested for attacking sea turtle nest

A woman in Florida has been arrested and charged and could face jail time for attacking a sea turtle nest.
She climbed into a fenced off area, past warning signs and attacked the nest by stomping on it and poking at it with a stick.

I have one question....WHY?
Nobody hates turtles.
Turtles harm no one.

She didn't accidentally injure them. She did have a stick with her. She had to make a point of climbing into a fenced off area. I hope they can get her to say why. I hope they do make an example of her and give her the full sentence. 
The law protects the turtles after the fact, but many volunteer hour go into protecting the nests. It looks like they need to be watched round the clock. Fences and signs and laws are not enough protection.

What is the matter with people.
