USA weakens its endangered species act
#1
The USA has moved to weaken its endangered species act. If this just effected animals on American soil I would say it was a bad decision and one that will have negative consequences for their country.
However many of the species that will now be in greater danger also extend their territory into other countries. Many species also live in Canada and south of the Mexican/US border. It effects our countries if the USA depletes certain animals. Some animals like whales and turtles travel much further so bringing their numbers down effects the ecosystems of many more countries.
When a country as big as the USA makes a bad decision ecologically, it can have a global effect.

We are already struggling with the effects of climate change and the loss of Biodiversity. Doing something so deliberately that will make things worse seems like an act of insanity. What do they think is going to happen. We have fought for years to save endangered species. It is a fight that we cannot give up.  Planet Earth is like a leaking boat. Just because someone is kicking more holes in the side doesn't mean we should stop bailing. It is time to bail harder and learn how to fix a leaking boat.

Well, coming from a government whose leader thought it was a great idea to poison wildlife with cyanide bombs....I am not surprised. Fortunately that ill-thought out idea was soon overturned.

We can only hope this one will also be overturned.

We do not need any more backward steps.

Even if we were just being selfish and protecting ourselves, we would protect the animals because protecting them, also protects us. These changes are about greed and exploitation of the land.

There are petitions that we can sign.

This kind of thinking is madness. We are in a real planet crisis with climate change and loss of biodiversity and someone with a lot of power is choosing to do things that will put biodiversity at risk and exacerbate climate change.
We are living in dangerous times.
