Macy's ends fur sales
#1
Macy's is a very large American department store chain. They have hundreds of stores in many states. They did 24 billion US dollars in business in 2018. They are not the first big chain to reject fur.  J.C. Penny and Sears already rejected fur. Many fashion designers like
Prada, Ralph Lauren, Gucci and Burberry have rejected the use of real fur.
Macy's however is a very big company and their decision will have an impact on what other companies do.

This is a controversial decision, with animal rights groups clashing with pro fur groups. However, the company is making this choice in response to consumer trends. People are rejecting the idea of wearing fur. It hasn't reached a point where all fur is banned. Not all fur sales are discontinued. The fur industry is still fighting to survive. It is a dying industry though. The demand for fur is declining. The stores willing to sell fur are fewer in numbers each year.  Like many other industries based on the misuse of animals, it is coming to an end.
The signs are there. When big name fashion designers and large department store chains both agree on something, that something is very important. Fur free fashion is the future of the clothing industry and it is a very near future.

Macy's is such a big department chain that it is effecting the fur industry and they are not happy.

There has been a movement away from fur for some time now. Furriers who don't see that are in denial. I no longer see people out even in winter wearing a full fur coat. Many of the furry hood trims are not actual fur.  Since people are not wanting to wear fur like they used to it would make more sense to change a business to something that people do want. Furriers are in a business that is dying out.
Macy's is ending its fur sales because the public has ended its fur purchases. That is obviously true. The store has fur coats on sale and they do not have crowds fighting to buy them.
