Hundreds of Koalas dead in bushfire tragedy.
#1
Hundreds of Koalas are feared dead as lightening starts out of control bush fires. Until the area is searched we will not know how many are dead and how many are injured. Hopefully there will be survivors. This population is critical to the survival of the species.
It is a genetically diverse healthy breeding population. Any losses here put the survival of the whole species at risk.

Smiley19  I don't know what to say. Sometimes a tragedy is just too much to take in.

I am going to hope that there are some survivors. There won't be enough, but at least there could be some.

This is an ongoing situation and I am going to search for articles that tell us what is happening.
I understand that rescues are taking place and a Go Fund Me page has been set up by the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital.
In particular they want to set up drinking stations to prevent koala deaths from dehydration.

The drinking stations are needed now and will be needed in the future. They will be needed in other koala reserves.
So far they have received $34,000 AUD. Hopefully more money will come in. They have a lot of work ahead of them.

So far 7 koalas have been brought in to the hospital. There will be more as the fire area is searched.

This is a more recent article.

The numbers of the rescued increases as they search so we can hope that some of the koalas survived.

What a terrible tragedy.
The rescued Koalas are so very lucky. It's so sad. I hope they can raise the money to make a big difference.
It is great that so much is being done to help them. Poor creatures !

I think the fundraising is going well. They need the money for water stations for survivors and to cover the costs of caring for the rescued koalas. There are not a lot of rescues so far, but anything is better than nothing. It is important that some survive. I will keep checking the news. I am sure they will find other survivors.

The loss is terrible and it must have been so frightening for the koalas that died, trapped in burning trees.  Smiley19
