Bondi Vet
#1
Well I didn't quite know where to put this, as it's a double series of 20 minute videos....that means lots of watching!

A great series about 2 veterinary practices near Bondi beach in Australia.

This is one of the series 4.

A tricky case with a bull who has to have his ingrowing horn taken off. The bull is well loved in the community, and is kept as a community 'pet'. He survived a typhoon (was about to be taken to the slaughterhouse when the storm struck) -and he was washed away by the tide, along with other cattle. Many didn't survive, but Bully did! He swam for shore, and has had a place in everyones' hearts ever since.

...Dr Chris....some eye-candy for the ladies! Smiley4 A Hunk with a Heart. Good on you Dr Chris.

Other episodes of the 2 series available on YouTube. I hope everyone can get these videos.

That is a great series. And yes I can get lots of episodes. I can't believe how beautiful it is down under. It looks so warm and comfortable.

You are quite right about Dr. Chris. He is well worth watching.

That is an amazing story about Bully and the wonderful people who care for him. Good stuff about the turtles too. I am glad someone is helping them.

I think I should treat myself to regular episodes. Especially on a cold wet day. They think it might snow tonight.

Oh thanks platy. Now I've finished the Bondi Vet series I have been looking for something else to watch. I'll try to find them.

Yes when I first saw Dr Chris, I thought -uh-oh....some guy who thinks he's a hunky surfer-dude! Not really my kind of thing. Then after watching some more, and seeing how genuine his care for the animals is -my opinion changed. I like him very much.

Dr. Chris' appeal is his love for animals although he is cute. Also, we Canadians love the accent. It is English, but different from our English.
Somehow it sounds like a more fun version of the language.
The show is worth it for the scenery too.

It is getting to be winter for you in Australia isn't it. We are having spring, but I think our spring is proving to be colder than your winter. It will be -10 tonight and there is snow again. Any sign of spring in England? My mistake, the radio just said it would be -11.

After I watch the Bondi Vet, I must look up the other show. I hope they do more than 5 episodes.
I am curious, where does the name Bondi vet come from?

Oh platy, I am sorry you have been sick! And I really hope you are feeling lots better now? A bit of sunshine will do you good, and to get out in the fresh air. That's basically my cure for everything (so far!) But it always works on me....

Get totally well soon, I hope. 87

Yes, Platy, get well soon. I always believe in drinking plenty of fluids, especially hot tea with lemon and honey. Hot soup is my other cure.
It might not actually cure anything, but it makes you feel better.

I agree, fresh air and sunshine are a good cure(followed by nice hot soup).

We have it colder, but you don't have the furnaces that we have and you don't have the heavy winter clothing. I might be sick of wearing it, but my coat is warm.

I didn't catch that it was filmed at Bondi Beach. It sure is beautiful there. It looks tropical to me. It is an interesting show. They choose the interesting cases to make an episode. So we get to see all the good stuff. Dr. Chris has a good attitude towards the animals. That is what I like to see.
Vet medicine is complex and challenging. I think it has changed as a profession. Vets see so many different kinds of animals now. Your friends must really love it. It is hard work, but very satisfying.

Yes soups might be very good food for you if you are getting over something. I always crave soups/stews when I am not so well.

I so wanted to be a vet when I was 7. This continued until I was 13 when I suddenly veered off and took another pathway through life.
I have always been interested in medicine though, know I could do it....and checked out veterinary courses recently. It won't work -I think as I am 61 this year, and I would be about 66 before I even qualified (if....!) Plus I only have maths at GCSE, so would need biology I think!!
Considering a vet's training should be all-round education, and specialising in small animal practice would probably come later, I honestly don't think I can imagine myself doing caesarians on cows at 4am when I'm in my late 60s..... Plus it would mean a long commute each day to my nearest vet school....plus the cost...

I watched a few videos of youngsters being interviewed for vet school. They have the energy, but they are so scared and wet behind the ears!
I'm not scared or wet behind the ears but I am getting old! We can't win can we?

Quote:I think studying vet medicine is definitely a love hate relationship. You'd be surprised how many people studying to be a vet have never even dealt with animals.

I wonder why they would study vet medicine. It seems like an odd choice.

I know. I wish I had the energy I had at twenty or better, at twenty I wish I had the perspective on life that I have now. I might have made some better decisions.

One thing I know, I liked soup at twenty and I like it now. Some things stayed the same over the years. I like making soup and over the years I have made some good soups.

My best soup was "refrigerator" soup. When I had a set of room mates, on Friday nights, we would pull the week's leftovers out of the frig, toss them all into the soup pot and cook them up into soup.

The week we had leftover gravy, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and a whole pile of other things, it was a great soup. I still remember it after 40 years. I still remember the peanut butter pumpkin soup. I haven't made that in awhile. Sigh. I need to do some soup making again.
